Catalyst Recycling for Power Generation

Diesel generators built after 2016 that serve as an application’s or facility’s prime source of power are subject to EPA’s Tier 4 emission standards for compression ignited (diesel) engines. Manufacturers of diesel-powered Tier 4 final power generation equipment use a combination of emission control technologies to achieve compliance and meet the standard.  These combinations vary based on horsepower, application, manufacturer and likely include any of the following technologies or a combination of the following technologies:

• Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC)
• Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
• Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)

As prime power applications run in continuous operation, the emission control technology listed above may require periodic replacement.  These emission control technologies can be catalyzed with platinum group metals (PGM) and can carry a significant recycle value when they require replacement.
